Occupants Rob Local Population Again: Exorbitant Railroad Tariffs in Ukraine’s TOT

The Russian occupation authorities continue to impose pressure on residents in the temporarily occupied Donetsk region by significantly increasing rail transportation tariffs. As of January 1, 2025, these tariffs have surged dramatically. According to available information, the fare to Luhansk now costs 955 rubles, compared to 585 rubles last year. Despite these hikes, the state of the railroad in Donetsk remains dire: services are frequently canceled, and stations are neglected and abandoned.

A similar situation exists in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, where public transportation fares have risen to 40 rubles. Yet, the occupation authorities have provided no tangible “improvements” for the local population.

This clearly shows that the occupiers have no intention of improving living conditions for local residents. Instead, they continue to escalate financial burdens, demonstrating complete disregard for basic human needs in the TOT. At the same time, Russian authorities systematically dismantle the remaining infrastructure, transforming everyday services into tools of economic exploitation. Services that were once accessible have now become an unattainable luxury, especially for the elderly. You can stop the policy of the Russian invaders and their collaborators by publicizing their crimes and demanding their international prosecution. You can also participate in rallies in support of Ukraine or donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
