The Russian authorities continue to cynically downplay the scale of the environmental disaster caused by a fuel oil spill in the Black and Azov Seas. Instead of taking meaningful action to address the consequences of the accident, the occupiers falsely claim there is “no threat” and issue misleading reports about the “compliance with standards” of fish caught in the affected waters.
The so-called “reliable” Russian agencies, Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor, have published fake “studies” claiming that fish from the polluted areas are allegedly safe for consumption. However, these statements are clearly an attempt to obscure the catastrophic impact of the spill and to avoid accountability for the environmental damage and mismanagement caused by the occupiers in the region.
It is essential to emphasize that fuel oil is insoluble in water, and contact with it can lead to serious health risks, including allergic reactions, eczema, and even chemical burns. Moreover, the natural recovery of the sea from such pollution could take up to 20 years, highlighting the long-term environmental devastation resulting from this disaster. You can stop the policy of the Russian invaders and their collaborators by publicizing their crimes and demanding their international prosecution.
