Occupiers Erect Monuments to Propagandists Who Justify the Occupation Regime

In Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories (TOT), representatives of the Russian occupation administration (ROA) continue to glorify individuals who serve their imperial agenda by justifying crimes and spreading disinformation. For example, in the occupied city of Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhia region, the occupiers plan to unveil a monument dedicated to so-called “journalists” who actively justify their crimes and disseminate distorted narratives about the Russian-Ukrainian war.

According to the occupation administration, the monument will feature a bronze figure of a journalist wearing a bulletproof vest labeled “PRESS.” The journalist will hold a camera, which, in the occupiers’ interpretation, symbolizes a weapon in the “struggle for truth.” However, the idea of a “struggle for truth” is deeply ironic when applied to Russian “journalists,” who are complicit in the crimes of the occupation regime. These individuals systematically conceal the war crimes of the Russian army, distort facts, and propagate falsehoods about the so-called “liberation mission.”

These propagandists play a key role in justifying war crimes against the Ukrainian people. They remain silent about the repressions, deportations, and destruction of Ukrainian cities, working instead to obscure the Kremlin’s bloody actions and shield them from international scrutiny.

This “initiative” is yet another glaring example of the occupiers’ cynicism. Rather than addressing the pressing needs of the city and its residents, they divert resources to erect fake monuments glorifying false “experts.” Meanwhile, the city’s population continues to suffer from a lack of water, heat, and essential services, as the occupation authorities focus their efforts on producing more symbols of their propaganda machine.

The National Resistance Center underscores that the actions of propagandists are deeply rooted in lies, the deliberate distortion of facts, and the manipulation of public consciousness.

You can stop the policy of the Russian invaders and their collaborators by publicizing their crimes and demanding their international prosecution.

You can also participate in rallies in support of Ukraine or donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
