The Russian occupation administration continues to impose its criminal ideology on the residents of temporarily occupied Mariupol. The latest step in this propaganda campaign is the construction of the so-called “Mariupol – City of Military Glory” monument, designed to glorify the occupation.
The occupiers plan to unveil the monument by May 9, exploiting the date as an opportunity to rewrite history once again and falsely portray their aggression as “liberation.” The most cynical aspect of this initiative is that, alongside the names of World War II veterans, the invaders have chosen to engrave the names of Russian soldiers who, in 2022, destroyed the city and murdered tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians.
Before installing this “monument of shame,” the occupiers systematically erased Ukrainian symbols from the city. They demolished monuments, memorials, and murals that reflected Mariupol’s true history. Now, in their place, they are erecting monuments aimed at justifying Russian war crimes and eliminating any trace of Mariupol as a Ukrainian city.
The enemy’s goal is to force local residents to accept the occupation, create the illusion of “restoring life” to the city, and impose a cult of war as an ideological weapon. However, no matter how much the occupiers attempt to integrate Mariupol into their political and administrative space, it remains — and will always be — a Ukrainian city. Sooner or later, all those responsible for its destruction will face just punishment.
You can stop the policy of the Russian invaders and their collaborators by publicizing their crimes and demanding their international prosecution. You can also participate in rallies in support of Ukraine or donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
