Occupiers in Ukraine’s TOT Organize Mandatory “Washing Away Sins” Ceremonies

On the day of Epiphany according to the Gregorian calendar, the occupiers are organizing mandatory, demonstrative “bathing” ceremonies for state employees in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories (TOT). Claiming to follow the so-called traditions of “Orthodox staples,” they insist that bathing on Epiphany washes away all sins committed by a person. Consequently, occupation administrations in every town across the TOT have been instructed to organize mass “washing away sins” events.

This is yet another distortion of fundamental human values. Can water, even consecrated water, cleanse the blood of innocent Ukrainian victims from the hands of those who brought war and destruction to our land? The Kremlin continues its systematic destruction of everything Ukrainian, driven by fear and hatred for Ukraine, while repeatedly distorting its version of Orthodoxy to justify its actions. Recently, the occupiers have not only banned St. Nicholas but have also prohibited carolers from celebrating Christmas and New Year’s Day.

You can stop the policy of the Russian invaders and their collaborators by publicizing their crimes and demanding their international prosecution. You can also participate in rallies in support of Ukraine or donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
