The Russian authorities use prisoners to work at military-industrial complex enterprises.
According to sources, the Russian leadership uses prisoners not only to participate in war against Ukraine, but also to ensure the functioning of the military-industrial complex.
In particular, prisoners are sent to “rear work” across the country; correctional centers have been opened at the Barnaultransmash plant in the Altai region, the Kurganpribor plant, the Chelyabinsk Forging and Pressing Plant, the Tula S-Poshiv garment factory, where military equipment is sewn, and the Uralvagonzavod, which manufactures tanks.
In this way, the Russians are trying to save money on military-industrial complex workers who need to be paid market salaries. Instead, prisoners perform these tasks almost for free.
Convicts work for the entirety of their sentence and cannot
refuse to work or choose another job, the only alternative is to join assault groups like StormZ.
