Spring conscription has started in Russia

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on the spring conscription of 150,000 people aged 18 to 30.

The text of the decree, signed by the Kremlin autocrat on Sunday, March 31, states that 150,000 people who are not in reserve and are liable for military service will be called up for military service in Russia. The military service is scheduled between April 1 and July 15.

150 thousand is only the officially announced quota, the actual number may be much higher. This quota also includes young men from the TOT of the Crimean Peninsula and the TOT of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where local “military commissariats” have managed to update the data of persons who meet the criteria for conscription.

In addition, it is formally stated that soldiers, sailors, sergeants and petty officers whose contracted service has expired will be discharged from military service. However, according to information from the Ukrainian underground, deputy commanders for political affairs are already working with this category to ensure they sign new service contracts.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, Russia is recruiting about 30,000 new soldiers every month, which allows it to cover losses and continue the war against Ukraine.

The Center for National Resistance warns the male population of the TOT aged 18 to 30, who could potentially be involved in hostilities against the Ukrainian Defense Forces, to leave their place of residence or the territory in general. In the case of forced mobilization or conscription, it is necessary to follow the surrender algorithm under favorable conditions.

Article 51 of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 expressly prohibits the forced mobilization of civilians to the TOT or their involvement in the organization of military operations.

Article 8 of the Rome Statute explicitly defines the coercion of nationals of the opposing party to participate in hostilities against their own country. Even if they were in the service of the belligerent before the outbreak of war, as a war crime.
