Russians seize real estate under the guise of reconstruction

Since the full-scale invasion, state-sanctioned looting by the occupier has flourished in the territories occupied by the Russians.

Under the guise of a housing restoration program, the Russians forced their way into homes where there were no residents at the time of the work. Doors are cut with special tools, even if the apartment was not damaged. After entering the residence, such pseudo-builders inspect the residents’ property and remove anything valuable. According to the testimony of TOT residents, the following items were stolen from their apartments: household appliances, electronics, sanitary ware, tools, outerwear, and even cans with long-term storage products.

After themselves, in the best case, the occupants leave behind cheap metal-plastic windows with double-glazed windows without finishing the slopes (window space), which in no way contributes to the preservation of the apartment. Often, the premises are left without an entrance door, leading to the disappearance of all property from such an apartment.

The occupiers exert pressure on the owners of such real estate. They are forced to re-register their apartments under Russian legislation, which, in particular, requires obtaining a Russian passport. Conversely, they recognize such property as “ownerless” and transfer it as official housing for Russians on business trips or sell it to Russians wanting to move to the TOT.

This behavior of the Russians demonstrates their disdain for property rights. It is noteworthy that even the Nazis did not resort to this. In particular, in 2013, an apartment in Paris that no one had entered since 1940 was opened. This has been a typical practice for Russians since the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.

We call on citizens on TOT to record such crimes by Russians and transfer information to Sprovyt.Bot to form an evidence base that will be used in the International Criminal Court.
